A multi-voice conversation to take stock of the many declinations that the expression "public art" can take. An ever-expanding concept whose perimeter needs periodic redefinitions, it refers to those object-based, immaterial or performative interventions that aesthetically rethink a given public space and that, by placing local communities at the center, are able to trigger relationships and connections between public and private institutions, history, individual memories and the social fabric of the place.
If in the past art was a symbolic key to represent the elements shared by the society that expressed them, in recent times it is increasingly an opportunity to give voice to cultural values or identity and social messages addressed to those who live in or pass through those places. Art, then, understood in its political and participatory function, capable of provoking lacerations and conflicts, and not least of questioning us about our paradoxical relationship with memory and oblivion.
