Festival Archaeology of the Present
8 – 10 May 2026
Fondazione Luigi Rovati inaugurates in Milan the first edition of the festival Archeologia del Presente (Archeology of the Present), conceived by Marco Bracconi and Giulia Zanichelli. From our present, we look at the past through archaeology; in the same way, we ask how those who come after us will look at our present.
Fondazione Luigi Rovati presents a series of talks and discussions on contemporaneity, understood as an archaeology of the future. Peoples, Myth, Medicine, Rights, and Milan are the themes explored across five events scheduled from Friday 8 to Sunday 10 May.
The opening event on Friday 8 May at 5:30 pm is dedicated to Peoples: famines, religious conflicts, wars, colonisations and climate change have always shaped migratory processes. What will be the future of these dynamics? Marco Aime discusses this with Giulia Zanichelli.
On Saturday 9 May, two events are scheduled. At 3:00 pm, Mario De Santis, Giuseppe Garibaldi and Paolo Di Paolo will reflect on Myth, starting from the figure of Giuseppe Garibaldi, and its roots in the collective imagination across past, present and future.
At 6:00 pm, the event dedicated to Medicine will feature a dialogue between Vittorio Alessandro Sironi and Lucio Rovati, tracing the evolution of medical science between millenary traditions and technological innovation.
On Sunday 10 May at 3:00 pm, the theme of Rights will be addressed by Emilia Rossi with Marco Bracconi, in a reflection on the relationship between law and individual rights.
The festival concludes at 6:00 pm with the event dedicated to the city of Milan. Mario Abis, Gianni Biondillo, Marco Bracconi and Lucia Tozzi will discuss the development of the city and its possible future, across urban, social and economic transformations.
