OASES - A digital platform to bring emergency care to underserved areas

Fondazione Luigi Rovati hosted the OASES (Organization for the Advancement and Support of Emergency Systems) conference, an international global health project aimed at improving emergency care management in remote and rural areas through the development of an app designed to support healthcare workers.

The OASES project was created with the goal of strengthening the skills of healthcare professionals in high-vulnerability settings, providing digital tools and knowledge to ensure timely and effective emergency care, regardless of where patients live.

During the event, the results of the app’s first pilot implementation were presented, conducted at the Dr. Ambrosoli Memorial Hospital in Kalongo, Northern Uganda. The pilot study, carried out in collaboration with the University of Milano-Bicocca and Fondazione Ambrosoli, involved local nurses and clinical officers in evaluating the app through simulated emergency scenarios, as part of a randomized crossover pilot study designed to assess the usability and effectiveness of OASES in supporting clinical decision-making in low-resource settings.

The pilot in Uganda represents the first step of an initiative designed to be replicable and scalable globally, contributing to reducing inequalities in access to emergency care.
