The dictatorship of fantasy | Autobiographical collage by Remo Bianco

Wednesday, March 27

An in-depth meeting on the figure of Remo Bianco, on the occasion of the exhibition of two Tableaux Dorés in the Blue Room on the Museum's Noble Floor.

Thanks to a collaboration with the Remo Bianco Foundation, two Tableaux Dorés created by the Milanese artist active since the 1940s are on display on the noble floor of the Fondazione Luigi Rovati.  The first Tableaux Dorés - or Impronte - originated from oriental suggestions to constitute one of his best-known and most enduring cycles, which continued until the 1980s. The Tableaux allow for new experimentation through the use of very thin gold and silver leaves that, arranged in rectangles or squares within a checkerboard pattern, take on ever-changing aspects. Thanks to their mutability, these elements humanize the geometric and impersonal grid through error and irregularity, in a continuous dialogue between balance and imbalance from which derives that solemn, at once modern and ancient effect of the Tableaux.

The Fondazione bookshop features the volume The Dictatorship of Fantasy. An Autobiographical Collage by Remo Bianco, published by Johan & Levi, a miscellany of memories, thoughts on art and ideas for future projects, which the artist assembled during a hospitalization in 1982.
