Being well together
A project by Fondazione Luigi Rovati and Cooperativa La Meridiana that redefines the concept of museum access for people with neurodegenerative diseases and their caregivers.
Fondazione Luigi Rovati and Fondazione Casa delle Luci recognise culture and museum heritage as a practical tool for growth, inclusion and participation for young people with communication disabilities, which are often associated with physical, sensory and cognitive disabilities. Based on this premise, this project is being developed to involve young people with severe communication disabilities and total or partial deafness, using Italian Sign Language as a means of augmentative and alternative communication.
Through the discovery of to the artworks hosted in the museum and workshops held at the Fondazione, the project builds a structured experience for learning, sharing and co-creating. Working in touch with Etruscan civilisation and the works in the Art Museum provides an opportunity to spark curiosity and encourage discovery and active involvement, helping to boost the young people’s self-esteem and sense of belonging.
