Sabrina Mezzaqui. The vulnerability of precious things

The exhibition program of White Space opens with the show “La vulnerabilità delle cose preziose” by Sabrina Mezzaqui.

Past

I use writing—mine and others’—as a tool for meditation, description, and design. Writing and reading are practices that nourish my life and my work. Another is walking. These are ways to organize the vortex of thought, to focus attention, to foster coherence, to seek truth, to observe, to study, to learn, to let go.

On display are two works: Autobiografia del rosso (2017), part of the Foundation’s collection, and Groviglio(2022), created specifically for the inauguration.

Autobiografia del rosso consists of 33 books (diaries, memoirs, autobiographies), wrapped and decorated with red paper, arranged on a desk. Sabrina Mezzaqui selects from her readings those that have left a mark on her life experience: the passages underlined in red highlight the most significant moments.

In Groviglio, strands of suspended pearls bring to life the tangled interweavings of branches reproduced on a large wall print. Facing it, an embroidered quote from Simone Weil reflects on the human response to chaos:
“A tangle of lines is often distressing when it appears to lack meaning; but when, after looking at it for a while, we perceive a coherent design pointing to a meaning, the feeling of anguish disappears, and our sensitivity toward those lines is effectively changed. The same happens with misfortune.”
