The Immense and the Invisible: sound Imaginaries between art and science

Fondazione Luigi Rovati hosted The Immense and the Invisible: Sound Imaginaries between Art and Science, an event that anticipated the European Researchers’ Night 2025 (ERN). The initiative, organized by MEET – Missions: Engagement and Education for Tomorrow and Co.Science – “Meet Research To Connect Science And Society” (both projects funded by the European Union), was structured around two distinct encounters united by a common thread: the promotion of research, scientific dissemination, and their connections with art. The lively narration of Elisabetta Maùti accompanied both performances.

In “Science as Art: An Astronomical Journey with Melody on Time”, Lorenzo Pizzuti, a young astrophysicist from the University of Milano-Bicocca, alternated reflections on the universe and space with stories about the starry sky and musical pieces, creating multidisciplinary links between science, art, and culture.

“Journey into the Virocosmos, Where Art Becomes Contagious” – designed by the Institute of Biophysics of the National Research Council (CNR-IBF) and the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED), with Monica Zoppè and Paolo Solcia – guided the audience into the invisible world of viruses through a model of HIV magnified ten million times. An immersive experience blending science, art, and design allowed participants to explore and reinterpret the “viral cosmos” in a creative and engaging way.
