For Luigi Ontani (1943), “the artist’s desire is the elsewhere.” His identity moves across different times and places, yet always finds a connection with the space that welcomes it.

The artist embarked on a journey through Cerveteri, necropolises, museums, and books, in search of the Etruscan world. From this experience arose six large paintings that now adorn Fondazione Luigi Rovati. The magenta walls were chosen by the artist as the ideal backdrop for his hybrid and dancing figures, joyful and unsettling at the same time, inspired by Etruscan, Indian, and classical myths.

In these works, demons and characters resurface from the ancient world with a festive vitality that dialogues with Ontani’s creative freedom and his taste for hybridizations, unexpected contrasts, and dreamlike, surreal visions.
